The Art of Self-Worship: Why YOU Should Be Your Own Religion
They say you come into this world alone, and you leave it the same way. Livia Soprano knew what was up. And frankly, so do I. Because let’s be real—what else in life can you truly, fully depend on besides yourself? People will disappoint you. They will lie, cheat, take, leave, and ghost. But YOU? You are always there. So why not go all in? Why not elevate yourself to the highest pedestal? I’m talking about full-on self-worship—no guilt, no apologies. Not just self-love, but self-idolatry. A lifestyle where every ounce of your time, money, and energy is devoted to one thing and one thing only: YOU.
Building the Altar: A Shrine to the Ultimate Being—Yourself
If people can dedicate temples to abstract gods, why not to a living, breathing deity—you? And mind you, altar doesn’t have to be some elaborate, ornate, candle-lit setup (though, if that’s your thing, go for it). It can be a metaphorical space, a mental sanctuary where EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND YOUR WELL BEING. Make the most out of spare space - or - get you a little 8x12 zippered sack and lay it out wherever and whenever you have some privacy! Just lay out the contents* as you see fit and get yourself right! Recite a mantra, spell, poem or motto you wholeheartedly feel encapsulates what your intentions are and fire away! You'll know if you should continue or cease in about 5 minutes or so. Don't wonder 'how', YOU WILL KNOW.
Mind Your Business & Do YOU
The world is a mess. People will drain you if you let them. The sooner you realize that the only true investment worth making is in yourself, the better off you’ll be. . Forget people-pleasing and exhausting relationships that give nothing back. An altar dedicated to yourself serves as a powerful affirmation of self-worth. It doesn’t invite negative energy; instead, it cultivates positivity by allowing you to recognize your own strengths. Forget trying to control what’s out of your hands. The only thing you can ever truly own is yourself—your energy, your looks, your future. So, if you're gonna "worship" something, why not worship accordingly?
At the end of the day, the only one who truly has your back… is YOU.

Many individuals combine altars with shrines, often leading to questions about their compatibility. An altar may focus on your personal empowerment, while a shrine could pay homage to a spiritual figure, deceased relative, or a philosophy that inspires you. The beautiful intertwining of devotion and self-appreciation does not diminish either space. Instead, they coexist harmoniously, illustrating that spirituality and self-love can complement one another. So, rest assured, it's 100% permissible to have more than one.
